BYU's Cummard declares for NBA Draft

Posted: Fri Apr 25 7:05 PM

Provo, UT (Sports Network) - BYU junior guard Lee Cummard will enter the NBA Draft, he announced Friday. Cummard will not hire an agent, leaving open the option of returning to the Cougars for his senior season.

"I want to see where I stand against some of the best competition in the world and see what my options are at that level," Cummard said. "I'm not hiring an agent because I want to keep open the opportunity to stay at BYU, but I'm going after this 100 percent. I'm looking to improve myself and make the best decision I can."

The 6-foot-7 Cummard was the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Year this past season after leading BYU with 15.8 points per game, while shooting 56.9 percent from the field and 47.2 percent from three-point range. He also ranked second on the team with 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest as the Cougars posted a 27-8 record that included a MWC championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.

"Lee had a terrific junior season for us, and he has decided to take advantage of the opportunity to explore the draft," said BYU head coach Dave Rose.

Cummard joins junior forward/center Trent Plaisted as Cougars declaring for the draft. Plaisted also opted to not sign with an agent. Both players have until June 16 to withdraw from the draft.
