Texas A&M and Arkansas renew storied rivalry

Posted: Mon Mar 10 12:14 PM

Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - A pair of former Southwest Conference combatants, Texas A&M and Arkansas, announced a renewal of their rivalry on Monday.

The two schools signed an agreement to play every season from 2009 through 2018 at the Dallas Cowboys' new stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2009.

"I am very excited about this agreement between our two schools and Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys organization," Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne said. "This provides a marquee non-conference game with national television exposure. The stadium is going to be one of the finest in the country and that should excite our players and fans."

Texas A&M and Arkansas have met 65 times dating back to 1903 but have not placed since 1991, the Razorbacks' final year in the Southwest Conference. Arkansas joined the Southeastern Conference in 1992, while Texas A&M joined the Big 12 in 1996 when the SWC disbanded.

Arkansas holds a 38-24-3 lead in the all-time series.

"Our coaches and players will embrace this non-conference game as a great opportunity and challenge to represent Texas A&M, the state of Texas, and the Big 12 Conference against the University of Arkansas, the state of Arkansas and one of the top programs in the Southeastern Conference," Aggies head coach Mike Sherman said. "This game is what college football is all about."
